The Rerekē programme will be showcasing artworks on Thursday 9th July as part of Matariki Te Karanga-a-Hape 2026.
Tamariki o te Pō by Keelin Bell was commissioned for the opening event of Rerekē, Te Whaiao. It is being reshown in a new format on the East Street wall of Artspace Aotearoa, accompanied by several other works from Tautai.
Maia Keane partook in the first Rerekē kaupapa, Whāriki, with several other ringatoi. Keane's installation work, WhareAtua, will be displayed inside the Artspace Aotearoa window. WhareAtua was commissioned by Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival for Te Ara i Whiti in 2023.

Keelin Bell (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou, Ngāpuhi) is a digital artist based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Bell's practice involves visualising pūrākau in a fresh, eye-catching manner taking influence from whakairo, raranga, and kōwhaiwhai and translating them into a unique art style. Bell aims to adapt our indigenous stories to celebrate and uplift our people while passing our Mātauranga on to the next generation.

Māia Keane (Ngāi Tāmanuhiri) is a ringatoi Māori descending from the first place to see the sun, Te Tairāwhiti / the east coast. Her art practice moves across painting, raranga, and whatu, connecting to pūrākau held in taonga tuku iho. Raised away from her whenua tīpuna, Māia’s work reflects an ongoing return to people and to place. Most of her time is now dedicated to being a kaiako. Sharing the mātauraunga in her kete and encouraging the next generation of haututu to do their thing.
