Debate Magazine spotlights Emily Lyall's Rerekē

We're pleased to share that Debate Magazine has featured Emily Lyall, our 2026 Kaiwhakamahiri Pirihi Taiwhenua Curatorial Intern, in a new interview exploring Rerekē.

In conversation with journalist Skye Lunson-Storey, Emily discusses the thinking behind Rerekē—this year's curatorial programme at The Kit—and reflects on the kaupapa of celebrating artists who are bold, unconventional, and willing to challenge established ideas of what Māori art can be. Drawing on Bob Jahnke's framework of toi Māori, the interview explores how Rerekē creates space for experimentation, dialogue, and new ways of thinking grounded in whakapapa.
