Crit sessions

As part of our forthcoming exhibition CRIT: Art learning since 1987, we will have a changing display of artwork by five emerging artists, with each artist participating in a crit session within the exhibition space.

The crit sessions form a live and participatory extension of the exhibition, which brings together case studies, artworks, and discursive programmes exploring models of alternative art education since 1987.

We are seeking expressions of interest for five early-career artists to participate in Crit sessions throughout the duration of the exhibition. Each artist will present an artwork which will remain on view in the exhibition for two weeks, with a critical feedback session hosted by Artspace Aotearoa staff open to the artist’s support network and the wider public. There will be two walls, plinth and a flatscreen available for presentation.

Who should apply?

Any artist currently enrolled in a tertiary education programme or who has graduated in the last five years can apply. Early career artists without formal tertiary training are also encouraged to apply. Applicants need to be comfortable with a discussion of their artwork taking place in a gallery setting which is open to the public.

To express your interest, please submit a 200 word statement about a recent artwork you would like feedback on, the type of feedback you are interested in and three images to emily@artspace.org.nz by Sunday 14 June.
